Curriculum

At Chadsmoor Community Infant and Nursery School, we are committed to raising standards through quality teaching and learning. Our curriculum is designed to instil a love of learning in all children.  We have designed our curriculum to provide interesting, exciting and innovative approaches to learning which meet the requirements of the statutory framework for the early years foundation stage and the national curriculum. We do this through our ‘Creative Curriculum’  which is a framework for broad and relevant experiences and  ensures progression and continuity in children’s learning from Early Years to the end of Key Stage 1.

In the Early Years Foundation Stage activities are structured around Prime and Specific Areas of development:

Prime Areas
• Personal, Social & Emotional Development
• Physical Development
• Communication & Language

Specific Areas
• Literacy
• Mathematics
• Understanding the World
• Expressive Arts & Design

This expands in Key Stage 1  to include all the National Curriculum subjects:

Art
Music

• Personal, Health and Social Education

Our Curriculum Newsletters outline learning for each term within each year group.  They contain key information regarding the topics that each year group are taught.

All children within our school receive reading books from the 'Oxford Reading Tree Scheme'. To ensure a breadth of choice and interest we also provide books from a range of other schemes including Rigby Star .  Our aim is to inspire a love of reading in all children.

All children in our Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 follow the Letters and Sounds phonics scheme. Progression through the phases is determined by attainment.  We ensure all phonics teaching is matched to the needs of the child.

Each term we give all parents the opportunity to attend termly parent consultation evenings to discuss their child's progress and achievements within our school.
